NEAL (Northern Education Access Loop) - Networked Learning Community from Origin Media on Vimeo.
Originally established as the North Shore Education & Access Loop) was an initiative under the Government's "Broadband Challenge" which saw the extension of a fibre broadband network to schools on Auckland's North Shore.
The NEAL Education Trust was established to bring together all of the fibre connected schools as well as all other schools on the North Shore which wanted to join - on the basis that they would get fibre - eventually. Now with the rollout of ultrafast broadband across all of Auckland imminent, any Auckland school can now be part of NEAL.
The NEAL Education Trust is now established as a central space for information and guidance to schools engaging in ICT development, whether it be simply their ICT infrastructure or for student engagement and pedagogy. The Trust, through this web portal, is extending its offer of support and guidance to all Auckland schools.
The Trust won a Regional ICT PD Cluster professional development contract from the Ministry of Education which is now enabling it to explore the delivery and exploitation of ICT in student engagement and student achievement over the next three years.
While all our schools will continue to be invited and involved in the development of our collaborative learning environment, those schools who make the further commitment of signing the Memorandum of Understanding and nominate their NEAL Lead Teacher will be first off the mark for many of the new initiatives.
